Blog Essay

For our last major project, we were told to sign up 12 to 16 sections of workshops to help us create and design a book. The book title can be anything you like, and the name of my book is “My Journey”. Why I choose this name is because this is a journey around London and a journey of my university life.

The first workshop I attach is contrast. The place that I am living in right now is at Oval and Rickmansworth. So there are two places that I can design for my Coat of Arms. In Oval, there is a cricket field that nearly everyone knows about it and there is a park in between Oval station and Kennington Road. So I used all this information I got from the research and made this Coat of Arm. Simple but express the detail clearly. The images in the squares and the details around the shield makes it looks like a royal symbol and a sign of warmness.

The second one is where my auntie lives, She live is Rickmansworth and it’s out of London. The place is quiet and always contains fresh air. Although the place is simple and plain, but it has an amazing park and the environment is all green.
So the Coat of Arms for this area is trees and swans, it means peaceful and calm. Pattern around the images represent the falling leaves and the warmness of the area.

The second workshop I attached was “movement”. Movement’s definitions are moment-to-moment, action-to-action, and time-to-time. For example a trip from my accommodation to my university, it will be: 1. Wake up ten minutes late. 2. Have a quick shower. 3. Lock the door. 4. Miss the bus. 5. Top up my oyster card. 6. Took the wrong train. 7. Saw a pair of twins on the train. 8. Rush to university when out of the station. 9. Search for Student ID card. 10. Rush up the stairs. This will be called moment to moment.

repeat pattern workshop

Today we were doing a section called the repeat pattern. What we do in the section is creating a repeat pattern by drawing and cutting. After all those drawing, go to the photocopier and print out the work u did and the repeat pattern is complete.

This is the brief and example for the repeating pattern for the section.
I hold it helps my explanation in this post.

A simple and quick example of a repeat pattern drawing.

London repeat pattern

Colour workshop.

In this colour workshop,  we were describing london in two different colours, one is orange and the other one is blue. In these two colour we were separated into two groups. Each group have a different colour, In my group we have orange. Describing London in the colour of orange.

We brainstorm the colour of orange and came out a lot of information.
but all of them is quite nonsense laugh out loud.

After that we brainstorm London as well and came up a lot of
negative key points to go with london like stinking rich. :P
I agreed what we have put in the brainstorm is true.

Than we made a image of what London feels like
when it combine with the colour orange. The
background have some old crack and uncomfortable
feeling in it that makes the london so stinking rich...

And the last one is London on a orange wall
that makes london so old and dull. Nothing
to do and so disorder. This is a good example
for london i am sure.

Reduction Workshop

Today we were having a session with Jo Spencer for a Reduction Workshop. We were exploring the london map and she give a number for the map that we are going to do and illustration.

This is the brief that we got from the section.

This is the map that i got from her.
my number is 6.

A simple outline of the map that I make in AI.

The progress that she put all the maps we make in the lesson together.

This is the final outcome of the mapping we did in the session.

Negative and positive workshop

Today we talk about negative and positive in paul's workshop. What is negative, and what is positive? There are a lot of answers that can describe these two words, like negative space and positive space. Red for negative and blue for positive, Bright is positive and dark is negative. Something bad is negative and something good is positive... etc. There are lots of things that can link to negative and positive.

We were told to bring newspaper to the session to work on because we are going to explore what is negative and positive. For example like the colour of the image is positive, but the passage is negative, the advertisement is positive and the meaning of the headline is negative. Why do you think it is positive and why do you think its negative.

This is an example of the positive and negative post in a metro newspaper.
the white spaces and neutral, red is negative and blue is positive.

What!! Extension Workshop... I guess i got to start doing it soon~
